Amazon EBS (Elastic Block Store) volumes are billed based on two primary factors:

  • Provisioned storage size (in GB-month)
  • Volume type (gp3, io1, st1, etc.)

The billing occurs in per-second increments, with a minimum of 60 seconds for any provisioned EBS volume. This means even if you delete a volume after just 20 minutes, you'll be charged for the full hour of usage.

  • Amazon accumulates usage throughout the month
